Milli-Hertz Gravitational-wave Background Produced by Quasiperiodic Eruptions

چکیده
Abstract Extreme-mass-ratio inspirals (EMRIs) are important targets for future space-borne gravitational-wave (GW) detectors, such as the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA). Recent works suggest that EMRIs may reside in a population of newly discovered X-ray transients called “quasiperiodic eruptions” (QPEs). Here, we follow this scenario and investigate whether LISA could detect QPEs. We consider two specific models, which QPEs made either stellar-mass objects moving on circular orbits around massive black holes (MBHs) or white dwarfs (WDs) eccentric MBHs. find case five detected so far too weak to be resolvable by LISA. However, if WD–MBH binaries, they radiate GWs over wide range frequencies. The Stochastic Gravitational–wave Background Produced by Non–linear Cosmological Perturbations
The cosmological stochastic gravitational-wave background produced by the mildly non-linear evolution of density fluctuations is analyzed, in the frame of an Einstein-de Sitter model, by means of a fully relativistic perturbation expansion up to second order. The form of these gravitational-instability-induced gravitational waves is gaugedependent. In the synchronous gauge, where the second-ord...

متن کاملMapping the gravitational wave background
The gravitational wave sky is expected to have isolated bright sources superimposed on a diffuse gravitational wave background. The background radiation has two components: a confusion limited background from unresolved astrophysical sources; and a cosmological component formed during the birth of the universe. A map of the gravitational wave background can be made by sweeping a gravitational w...
متن کاملGravitational wave background from magnetars
We investigate the gravitational wave background produced by magnetars. The statistical properties of these highly magnetized stars were derived by population synthesis methods and assumed to be also representative of extragalactic objects. The adopted ellipticity was calculated from relativistic models using equations of state and assumptions concerning the distribution of currents in the neut...
متن کاملGravitational Wave Background From Hybrid Topological Defects.
We investigate the spectrum of stochastic gravitational wave background generated by hybrid topological defects: domain walls bounded by strings and monopoles connected by strings. Such defects typically decay early in the history of the universe, and their mass scale is not subject to the constraints imposed by microwave background and millisecond pulsar observations. Nonetheless, the intensit...
